Maison Karl Lagerfeld enters the café scene in Amsterdam
The world of Karl Lagerfeld can now be experienced in a new way, over coffee and pastries.
Londoners may be familiar with Karl Lagerfeld’s Future Legacy flagship store concept, which opened two years ago on Regent Street. This month, the house has opened another space in Amsterdam, on the corner of Raadhuisstraat and Herengracht. With a monochromatic palette and a combination of brushed metal, raw concrete and reflective surfaces, its interior design reflects Lagerfeld's distinctive aesthetic.
Here, however, instead of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, visitors can enjoy speciality coffee and pastries. “We wanted to create a place where people can connect with the world of KARL in a new way, beyond fashion," says CEO Pier Paolo Righi.
Located by the brand’s international headquarters, the café was co-curated with Amsterdam hospitality atelier Pantopia, founded by Youssef Zyat, known for their seasonal approach to menus. Every detail was considered, from the branded cups to the takeaway containers. Shoppers can also purchase limited-edition merchandise including a curated selection of accessories, coffee table books, candles – and even the brand’s signature white shirt. Until mid-September, an adjacent pop-up showroom is showcasing a curated selection from the Karl Lagerfeld collections, including seasonal pieces and signature styles.
With roasters scattered across the city, Amsterdam is known for its vibrant café culture. As a recent addition to this scene, the Karl Lagerfeld Café concept extends the house’s offering beyond fashion, making it accessible to both local visitors and international guests. It also reflects a broader trend of luxury brands expanding into the lifestyle and hospitality space, offering a taste of a premium experience at a more accessible price point.
