    In Partnership With Lufthansa

Rendering us free from the routines of everyday life yet not quite immersed in what comes next, travel creates a rare state of possibility. It is a moment of transition where the mind begins to wander, observations sharpen and creativity is given room to surface. For artists, designers and architects, the journey has long been more than a means of reaching a destination. It is often where the creative process begins.

Increasingly, airlines are recognising that this in-between space deserves as much design consideration as the places we travel to. The challenge is no longer simply to move passengers comfortably from one city to another, but to create environments that support the different ways people choose to spend their time in the air.

Lufthansa's Allegris Business Class approaches this through personalisation. Designed around the concept that no two travellers work, rest or think alike, the cabin offers an experience that adapts to individual needs rather than asking passengers to adapt to it.

Some will use the journey to sketch ideas, respond to emails or simply observe the changing landscape below. Others will seek uninterrupted privacy or space to unwind. With a choice of business class seats – from the suite and privacy seat to the extra space seat, extra long bed and classic seat – each passenger can shape the journey around their own rhythm. They might adjust the lighting to create a calmer atmosphere before settling in for rest, or make the most of the space to focus. This freedom to move between productivity and relaxation reflects an understanding that creativity is rarely linear. Moments of focus are often followed by moments of reflection, and both are equally valuable.

Taking part in Lufthansa's latest campaign, Jacob Chan, a UK-based ceramicist, reflects on the importance of comfort and light while travelling. ‘I spend many hours on uncomfortable chairs in the studio – so when I travel, I consciously pay attention to comfort and freedom of movement. For me, that's the foundation for arriving well-rested and staying open to new ideas. The extra-long bed gives me exactly that space: to stretch out, relax, and also to develop flashes of inspiration further.’ Chan believes Lufthansa has really nailed the lighting onboard: ‘Light is essential for me to understand forms and surfaces. When I want to work on the go, I need soft, directed light that is stable and makes details visible. The lighting concept in the Lufthansa Allegris Business Class cabin supports this perfectly – it's unobtrusive and exactly where I need it.’

Design quietly underpins each stage of the experience. Generous personal space encourages concentration without isolation. Intuitive technology removes stress, while considered culinary experiences provide natural pauses. Rather than competing for attention, every element of the design is designed to comfortably fade into the background, allowing passengers to tailor-make their experience.

Perhaps that is the real art of flying. Not simply transporting people between destinations, but creating an environment where time is reclaimed, the senses are engaged and new ideas are given space to emerge. While Jacob Chan experienced Lufthansa Allegris in business class, the concept extends across first class, business class, premium economy and economy, offering a new travel experience throughout the aircraft. Wherever the journey takes place, Lufthansa Allegris creates an environment in which the journey can become part of the creative process itself.
