With a patination and palette reminiscent of salt flats, the new iteration of the Prada Bonnie bag waves to the abstract beauty of summer landscapes. Where in nature salt forms mineral crusts on sandy surfaces, in the Prada lab, pristine raw linen is painted with pigment, then washed, cut, treated, stitched and assembled with front flap pockets and slender handles. The upshot is an unconventional, tactile design that neatly throws clichés of the seasonal white bag up in the air.
The Bonnie, an elongated east-west shape, was first introduced quietly in 2024 and charmed bag hunters with its handy pockets and archival belt buckle/strap detailing. The latest edition requires multiple processes and a complete set of artisan hand tools, including pliers, a magnifying glass and a weight gauge, to assemble.
While the appearance is breezy and light with its illusionistic textured surface, the densely woven linen is durable and nods to the functional language of knapsacks and camera bags. Indeed, a Leica would happily slip into the front pouch, and a swimsuit and water flask into the top zipper pocket.

Consider the Bonnie bag a primer. Come September, Prada will unleash its AW26 collection, which reads as a paean to decay and renewal with patched, slashed, worn and crinkled pieces layering up in ensembles of slip dresses, bloomers and coats. The Bonnie linen is also reminiscent of delectable, chewy torrone nougat and in this complex, agitated era in fashion, there is room for sweetness too.
